What are the responsibilities and job description for the CASAC T/SUBSTANCE ABUSE SPECIALIST position at SCO Family of Services?
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct substance abuse assessments for program participants.
- Co-facilitate substance abuse education and support groups.
- Provide education on substance use, recovery, and harm reduction strategies.
- Respond to crisis situations involving substance use within the program.
- Attend monthly treatment team meetings and ACS conferences.
- Coordinate and facilitate referrals to community substance abuse treatment providers.
- Attend intake appointments for youth enrolled in external treatment programs.
- Maintain communication with external providers to track youth progress.
- Engage parents in the treatment process and provide training on drug testing methods.
- Collaborate with Group Leaders to develop individualized substance abuse programming.
- Assist youth in creating relapse prevention plans.
- Provide ongoing substance abuse training to staff during team meetings.
- Identify and integrate educational materials (workbooks, documentaries, etc.) into programming.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all interactions, including group sessions, individual meetings, and provider communication.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- A residential and office setting working with juveniles.
- Employees must be able to work effectively and efficiently within a demanding work environment.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- CASAC-T certification required.
- Prior experience in substance abuse treatment required.
- Experience working in a residential setting is preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
