What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant position at SCOPE Education Services?
SCOPE Education Services has an immediate opening for a teacher assistant for our UPK Program located in the North Shore School District. Scheduled hours are 5.75 on school days.
The Teacher Assistant's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assisting, implementing, and facilitating activities: set-up , preparation and clean-up of daily activities and snacks
- Implementing and reinforcing the same behavior management strategies utilized by the teacher
- Working with the children individually and in groups as assigned by teacher
- Preparing materials and learning areas
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must consent to and undergo a criminal background check.
- Must have ability to perform general physical activities including but not limited to bending, standing, sitting and walking all for extended periods of time. Must be able to maintain alertness in observing and dealing with situations involving groups of children. Must have adequate speaking, hearing, and vision sufficient to handle groups of children.
- Must have the ability to effectively handle emergency situations and react accordingly, including the ability to handle exigent circumstances involving physical movement of children, e.g., assisting a child who is having a temper tantrum to calm down, regain control, if on the floor to get up, all using physical and oral guidance without undue use of force and without punishment.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds regularly and carry objects of that weight a distance consistent with classroom and program needs.
- Must be able to maintain regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed upon schedule.
EDUCATIONAL AND RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- New York State Teacher Assistant Certification* or Teacher Certification required.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
