What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Casualty Underwriter position at SCOR?
This Underwriting trainee role allows for hands on learning of reinsurance treaty underwriting for both casualty and professional lines. The individual is expected to complete the CPCU and ARe designations as well as other necessary trainings to gain a solid foundation of both insurance and reinsurance. The US Casualty Treaty team works extremely collaboratively and therefore, collaboration and effective communication is key for success.
The individual will be expected to support the US Casualty treaty underwriter and the leadership team throughout both renewal and new business. Project work, along with broker and client engagement is essential for the overall success of the team and for the growth of the trainee.
This position will include mentorship both within the team as well as formally, through an assigned mentor within SCOR. We are a hybrid work environment with the expectation of three days in the office, per week. The individual will be expected to travel for client meetings as well as industry events.

This position will include mentorship from the underwriting team as well as an assigned mentor within the broader SCOR group.
The focus of this role will be as follows:
- Build a foundation of insurance and reinsurance by completing both the CPCU and ARe exams. The expectation would be that at a minimum, three exams be completed per year.
- Review and understand SCOR guidelines, appetite and strategy.
- Learn to evaluate reinsurance submissions, assess risk, determine if a risk fits within the SCOR appetite and portfolio and if so, assist in determining necessary terms and conditions required to support the business.
- Analyze data to help support pricing and underwriting decisions. Advanced knowledge of excel and other necessary tools is preferred.
- Enhance current processes and tools to help support the underwriting team and allow for better analysis of both individual treaties and the overall portfolio.
- Stay informed and educated on market conditions, line of business trends and other key items relevant to Professional Liability and Casualty Lines.
- Assist the underwriters in various tasks that will allow the underwriter to better support his or her clients, while also supporting the broader goals of SCOR.

- Advanced Excel Skills: Coding and other skills are highly preferred but not required. Self-motivated individual who can run with tasks but can effectively keep the necessary stakeholders informed.

The range listed is just one component of SCOR’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $80,000 - $95,000 salary per year.
