An employee in this class performs specialized administrative and technical work in support of the building permit process, building inspections function and environmental health permitting processes for the County. The employee also receives septic, well, and environmental health permit applications and reviews for completeness and routes to Environmental Health for permitting.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Answers the telephone, greets visitors and provides information on inspections and permitting process requirements; explains departmental procedures; provides assistance to the public for obtaining electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, and environmental health permits; determines type of permit needed and provides appropriate applications. Accepts permits and reviews applications for completeness prior to acceptance of application; verifies approvals and appropriate signatures, including applicable licenses; conducts preliminary review of plans and parcels for inclusion of required documentation; researches forwards documents needing further review to appropriate staff.Enters permit information submitted electronically into permitting software system; scans paper submittals; tracks plans during review process.Schedules building inspections and re-inspections as requested; coordinates inspection times and changes; prepares field files for daily inspections.Calculates and collects applicable fees for permit applications; provides receipts and compiles transaction reports; tracks and balances payments for construction projects; prepares daily bank deposit; prepares and issues monthly invoices for inspections. Prepares and issues building permits upon approval; prepares any associated correspondence; notifies contractors of inspection results.Establishes and maintains files and records of permits issued; enters permits, inspections and re-inspections information into computer and creates and maintains hard copy and electronic files with applications, inspection reports, and related documents; pulls and retrieves filed materials as needed.Performs administrative support for the departments; prepares requisitions and processes department accounts payable; processes credit card bills; maintains department office supplies. Compiles and maintains forms, permits, notices, licenses and letters with designated information; prepares and maintains data and statistics for quarterly and monthly reports.Assists other department staff and serves as back up to other department staff requiring knowledge of zoning permit process.
