Job Skills / Requirements
Individual needed to perform a variety of skilled trades work to repair and maintain the detention center. Individual selected will be responsible for completing routine and emergency repairs to equipment, fixtures, fittings, and building systems. Also responds to reports of broken or faulty items, conducts routine inspections of facility and vehicles, and coordinates work with outside vendors and contractors.
Duties include the following;
- Inspects machinery, equipment, facility, facility systems, including heating and air, ventilation, generators, etc.,
- Performs general maintenance and completes small repairs such as fixing locks, leaky faucets, minor electrical issues, minor plumbing issues, open clogged drains and toilets, painting, replacing light bulbs, faulty switches, drywall,
- Inspects and troubleshoots problems and issues reported by staff,
- Contacts outside service providers for assistance when necessary,
- Maintains tools and other equipment,
- Follows a maintenance and inspection schedule for the facility,
- Maintains records of inspections and repairs,
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position requires graduation from high school or possession of a GED and some related skilled trades work experience is preferred. Candidates must have knowledge of general carpentry and repair, ability to use hand tools and power tools, excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to remain on task and complete work orders in a timely manner with limited supervision. Candidates should also possess computer knowledge and skills, and good organizational and communication skills. Some physical ability is needed to stand or walk for prolonged periods, climb ladders, access tight spaces, and lift 40 pounds unassisted. It is anticipated the person selected will work 15-20 hours per week and pay for the position will be $19.00/hour. On-the-job training will also be provided.
