Scott County Government is currently accepting applications and resumes for the hiring of an experienced Firefighter/EMT.
Firefighter/EMTs provide protection of life and property through the suppression and prevention of fires in response to emergency calls. Duties include responding to scenes of fires, disasters, or other emergency incidents; protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires; providing emergency medical services and care; regularly maintaining firefighting equipment, apparatus, stations and quarters. In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time in cramped surroundings, hot and smoky environments with limited visibility and at considerable heights. Work schedule is 24 hours on duty, followed by 48 hours off duty.
Firefighter/EMT Lateral Transfer Minimum Qualifications:
In order to be considered for a lateral transfer, you must meet the minimum criteria:
- KY Basic 2 certification from the Kentucky Fire Commission,
- Hold a current Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician certification,
- Must currently be working as a full-time firefighter or have been working as a full-time firefighter within the three years of the application deadline date. In addition, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid CPAT certification permitting them to begin employment on the eventual hire date which is expected to be in February 2025.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or a GED,
- Individuals must be 18 years of age by the date of hire,
- A US citizen and possess a valid driver’s license from the current state of residence.
Lateral Transfer Information:
- Individuals are being considered as lateral transfers that may have an interest in continuing their fire service career with Scott County Fire Department.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have one or more years of experience.
- Preference will be given to those that are state certified firefighters with IFSAC I & II.
- Experienced candidates will be fast tracked through Scott County Fire Department orientation and training program based on demonstration of competency in IFSAC I and II job related skills. Failure to do so may require additional training.
Pay and Benefits:
- The minimum starting pay is $54,800 which includes the annual training incentive listed below.
- Additional credit will be given for prior related college degrees and work experience and the starting pay will be commensurate with qualifications. Starting pay could be up to $63,000 for those with extensive related education and/or work experience.
- Kentucky training incentive: $4,300 annually
