Director of Maintenance
JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Director of Maintenance
QUALIFICATIONS:
Kentucky Teacher’s Certificate with Principal’s or Supervisor’s certification and experience equivalent to a minimum of 5 years administrative experience or the equivalent in maintenance related activities.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Operations
SUPERVISES: Maintenance Department
JOB GOAL:
The Director of Maintenance shall have authority for the proper maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the Scott County Schools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as administrator working toward maintaining a safe and clean environment conducive to learning in all of Scott County Schools.
2. Provide support to other administrators and staff.
- Assist the Director of Facilities with architects, engineers, and contractors involved in the construction, renovation and maintaining of the Scott County school properties.
- Develop and operate a budget for maintenance, custodial and operations management within the limits established by the Scott County Board of Education.
- Develop general operating policies for the principals to develop a program of preventive maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Authority to recommend for employment or dismissal all those classified personnel connected with maintenance, custodial and operations management.
- Develop and organize work schedules for the maintenance, custodial and operations management employees.
- Responsible for the recruitment and recommended hiring of custodians, with input from building principals on the head custodian position.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of scheduled maintenance, emergency repairs, and future needs of each building and property operated by the Scott County Schools.
- Schedule regular maintenance and servicing of all operating equipment and regular safety checks of the buildings and grounds.
- Responsible for maintaining all vehicles and motorized equipment, excepting Transportation Department vehicles, proper use policies, vehicle assignment and the recommended procurement of replacement vehicles and motorized equipment.
- Responsible for issuing purchase orders for all purchases used in maintenance, custodial and operations management of the Scott County properties.
- Responsible for the preparation of all bid forms for supplies and materials used in maintenance, custodial and operations management of the Scott County properties.
- Cause all invoices pertaining to maintenance, custodial and operations management of the Scott County properties to be directed to his attention and give approval before such claims are presented to the Board of Education.
- Responsible for school grounds to include snow removal, mowing, landscaping, parking and drives and any renovations.
- Responsible for the safety systems, fire alarms, elevators, and emergency situations as pertaining to the school buildings and equipment.
- Develop short and long range plans for maintenance, custodial and operations management activities for the Scott County properties.
- Responsible for warehousing and proper storage of consumable supplies, maintenance supplies, equipment, and the in-house mail surplus property.
- Maintain affiliations and memberships at Board expense in the Kentucky School Plant Management Association, National School Plant Management Association, and other memberships related to the responsibilities of the position. Attend local, regional and national meetings that are designed to develop and move the department forward in all areas of responsibility.
- Assume other duties, as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Operations or Superintendent.
