SUMMARY
Under direction, to assist in the planning, development and implementation of the policies,
regulations, guidelines and procedures pertaining to the District food service; to serve as a
resource to District personnel and site councils pertaining to State and Federal food service
programs; to assist in the development, preparation and distribution of food service program
applications; to audit, monitor and review the food service budget control procedures and project
compliance requirements; and to do other related functions as directed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position classification requires subject matter expertise commonly associated with food
service knowledge and skills. Directly related managing and coordinating experience is required
to perform demonstration teaching, in-service training, and problem analysis using prescribed
principles, methods and concepts. The position classification performs decision analysis and
makes decisions of considerable consequence. The functional role of this position classification
requires the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies. The incumbent
meets frequently with school administrators, teachers, internal staff and members of the
community to communicate information, data, and alternative problem solutions. This is a
sedentary position classification and performs light work that involves sitting a portion of the
time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate
perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with
educational materials and objects, and providing oral information.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
?Interact with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at
their highest level.
?Manage the Food Service staff.
?Evaluate performance and effectiveness of programs and staff. Coordinate in-service
training for staff.
DIRECTOR OF FOOD SERVICE
?Maintain a relationship with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside
agencies.
?Participate in district-wide activities, in-service meetings, and committees, as appropriate.
?Implement policy and procedure changes from the Board, or the State and Federal level at
the building level. Report appropriately to staff and to community.
?Prepare the Food Service budget, work with budget manager on budgeting/purchasing.
?Establish priorities for Food Service materials to meet the needs of students and teachers
with allowable anticipated funds.
?Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District's policies and
applicable laws including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning,
and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;
addressing complaints and resolving problems.
?Work with Central Office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of
the school.
?Comply with applicable state and federal law as well as local policies and procedures.
?Others duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Principles, goals and objectives of public education;
Methods, techniques, procedures and strategies pertaining to the assessment and evaluation of the
District food service program;
Legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational guidelines pertaining to the food service
programs and public school administrative processes;
County, State and Federal special funding sources and the trends pertaining to food service
program development;
Research techniques, strategies and procedures.
Ability to:
Provide specialized resource support, and the coordination of creative and innovative special
funded food service programs;
Analyze, evaluate and assess food service programs;
Plan, organize and develop research and survey techniques;
Plan, organize and participate in the evaluation and assessment of the food service programs and
activities;
Effectively serve as a resource to administrative and instructional personnel and community
members concerning food service programs;
Establish and maintain a budget planning and expenditure control procedure;
Establish and maintain effective organization, community and public relationships;
Communicate effectively in oral and written form;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge
and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
Experience:
Five years of experience as a classroom teacher at the elementary level, preferably with
some experience organizing and coordinating special funded project activities.
DIRECTOR OF FOOD SERVICE
Education:
Possession of an earned Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or
university in an area commonly taught in the elementary school levels, instructional
technology, curriculum and instruction supervision, or closely related areas.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
