Job Description
Position : Laboratory Director
Location : Boston, MA 02118, United States
Compensation : $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 USD
Signing Bonus : $5,000 Sign-on Bonus
Relocation Package : None
Leadership :
Provide management oversight and leadership for multiple sub-specialty sections of the Laboratory, including Blood Bank, Transfusion Services, Central Receiving Area, Chemistry, Hematology, Phlebotomy, POC, or Rapid Response Laboratory.
Assume full responsibility for all laboratory staff in the section, championing a quality and compliance-focused environment.
Contribute to departmental strategic planning and provide 24 / 7 call coverage.
Fiscal Responsibility :
Take full fiscal responsibility for section oversights, including preparing and managing an operating budget, managing staffing expenses and overtime, capital budget, and analyzing billing codes.
Contribute to departmental goals of improving cost-effectiveness, optimizing resources, and revenue enhancement.
Quality, Compliance, and Safety :
Ensure quality and compliance data for all sections are collected, analyzed, and disseminated in accordance with accrediting agencies' requirements.
Oversee and ensure RL6 Incident Safety reports are followed up, and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
Participate in hospital-wide Quality Assurance Program and contribute to departmental / sectional Quality Assurance Policies.
Technical Expertise :
Provide guidance and resolution for problems involving analytic instrumentation equipment, test systems clinical correlation, therapeutic decision making, backup systems, and system performance.
Plan, evaluate, and implement new or different methodologies and technology to enhance or expand laboratory services.
Human Resources :
Oversee the interview process, coordinate candidate selection, recommend salary rates, and ensure orientation and ongoing proficiency of technical staff.
Provide counseling and disciplinary action, execute disciplinary action, and actively support employee engagement.
Communication :
Communicate with staff through regular meetings, summarize meeting minutes, and participate in leadership rounding.
Work with other managers and supervisors to ensure optimal utilization of staff and facilitate cross-training.
Requirements
Education : Bachelor's degree in Medial Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Bachelor's degree in an applied science (Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Certification by ASCP, NCA, or equivalent agency is preferred.
Experience : Minimum of 3 years' experience in a clinical laboratory, supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills : Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, strong leadership qualities, and in-depth scientific understanding of the area of charge.
