Job Description
Responsible for planning and executing the educational program in accordance with the purpose and goals of children which ages may include: infant/toddler and preschoolers. Responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of children. Reports to the Director of Programs. .
Educational Requirements
- A degree (Associates, Bachelors or CDA/TCC) in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
Qualifications
Professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development; meeting the requirements of the licensing agency. A sensitive, mature individual who relate well to children and adults. Must be a team player.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Carries out the Mission, Vision and Values established by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Participates in the overall agency Accreditation (NAYEC) process.
- Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, maintaining current knowledge of early childhood practice.
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with policies and philosophy of Scottdale Child Development and Family Resource Center.
- Plan and implement appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, etc.
- Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, cultural needs, social intellectual and physical development of each child enrolled at the Center.
- Supervise upkeep of all educational equipment and materials in assigned area.
- Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning center.
- Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times.
- Keeps necessary attendance records, up to date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile and other records as needed.
- Implements programs, which encourages parent involvement and development.
- Conduct parent conferences on each child’s classroom adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress.
- Work with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and development; encourage parent participation in school programs; attend parent group and Center functions; conduct conferences on request.
- Responsible for securing health, hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of children at all times and assist with toilet training as needed.
- Eat all meals with children and encourage development of sound nutritional practices.
- Treat children with dignity and respect.
- Strict compliance with universal precautions in the classroom or/and when administering first aid.
- Responsible for reporting any symptoms of child abuse and neglect, abnormal behaviors, injuries, illnesses to Supervisor and/or parents.
- Responsible to communicate with parents on child development issues, policies or other concerns related to their child.
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information of staff and families.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning of classroom, and changing of linens.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Dispensing of medication when needed.

- Physical Exam
- TB test clearance
- CPR Certification
- Responsible for attending workshops, conferences, and all required training.
Physical Requirements
To perform this job the individual must be able to carry out all essential functions satisfactorily. Scottdale Child Development and Family Resource Center employees must be able to perform the following essential functions:
- Observe, see, hear, and respond to children’s needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur in the child development center or on the playground.
- Lift 30 pounds from the floor to a waist-high table when necessary.
- Reach a child 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds without endangering the staff person’s health.
- Crouch to a child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, sit on the floor and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment.
- Be aware of the cognitive, social, and physical needs of the children.
- Communicate verbally and writing in English to the degree that child, parents, and other staff members are able to understand and respond.
- Handle the responsibilities and routine stress often associated with providing childcare services.

- Monday – Friday
- Work hours to be determine by Supervisor.
