TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL COACH
REPORTS TO: Principal, Curriculum Director
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
TERMS: 187 Days
EVALUATION: State and/or Local Evaluation Protocol
JOB GOAL:
- To improve academic skills and promote literacy in schools across all content areas and grade levels, through collaborative professional development, coaching of teachers, demonstration of lessons, data analysis, and modeling of effective instruction
- To assist teachers in implemented targeted teaching practices to accelerate student achievement
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Alabama teaching certificate
- Minimum five (5) years’ successful teaching experience in an elementary setting
- Knowledge of and ability to implement effective instruction, effective instructional planning, and the use of formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction based on system and state courses of study and the needs and abilities of students
- Knowledge of and ability to plan and implement effective teacher coaching, and professional development practices based on current research and theory
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
- Punctuality and regular attendance
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, intervention strategies, school improvement plans, and effective professional development delivery techniques
- Utilize and model instructional strategies in all tiers of instruction to improve students’ skills in subject area(s) as assigned
- Utilize and model innovative teaching techniques and technology as a teaching
tool to plan and provide instruction; act as a facilitator for students in the use of
technology in the classroom - Utilize a variety of coaching strategies to differentiate support for teachers, both individually and in groups
- Support the planning of specialized instruction for struggling students as required
- Support the implementation of school and district literacy efforts to reach the goal of students performing at or above proficiency in all areas
- Lead professional growth and development activities for the purpose of improving the instruction, methods, and curriculum of the staff, including any professional development activities as required or directed
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and administrators in curriculum development, instructional planning, special activities and sharing ideas and resources
- Develop and implement assessment strategies (traditional and alternative) to assist in the continuous development of learners
- Interpret and use data (including but not limited to standardized and other test results) for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation
- Communicate and promote high learning expectations for all students and staff
- Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills
- Perform any other duties as assigned
