Medical Assistant Position Summary

This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience while working under the direction of a licensed healthcare professional.

Position Duties

The following clinical and administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greets patients in a friendly and professional manner. Places patients in exam rooms and obtains appropriate initial information and documents in the electronic medical record.
  • Schedules surgery, instructs patients in pre- and post-operative care, makes sure that appropriate consents have been signed and copies are given to the patient.
  • Schedules laboratory work, X-ray, and other tests as ordered by the Provider, and verifies results in a timely manner.
  • Obtains insurance authorization and pre-certification prior to medications/surgery, and informs Physician and patient of any unexpected financial obligations.
  • Orders medical supplies for the office to keep exam rooms and the procedure room properly stocked.
  • Triages patients as needed in emergent situations under the direct advice of the Provider, and takes patient phone calls regarding medical conditions, results or questions. Relays the information to the Provider as appropriate, and documents follow-up in the medical record.
  • Assists with scheduling return appointments and answering telephones when the Patient Care Coordinator is helping another patient.
  • Maintains equipment including surgical instruments, and autoclave then follows office policy for cleaning and sterilizing instruments, and keeping adequate instruments available.
  • Keeps exam rooms and procedure rooms neat and clean.
  • Disposes of hazardous waste at the end of each day according to office and building policy.
  • Maintains accurate OSHA records and pharmacy records for drug samples in coordination with the Provider. Meets with pharmaceutical vendors to keep the sample cabinets stocked as requested by the Provider.
  • Performs other duties or projects as requested by the Operations Executive or Provider to ensure the smooth operation of the Practice.
  • Fills in for patient coordinator to cross cover as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Experience in a Dermatology office with Back Office experience preferred but not required.
  • BLS Certification required
  • EMA Dermatology (EHR) experience preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA regulations
  • Excellent work ethic and positive attitude
  • Extraordinary customer service abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have reliable transportation

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
