Position Objective

The job of Director of Teaching and Learning is done for the purpose/s of assisting the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services to establish and maintain the curriculum and instructional program.

This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Plans and implements professional development, mentoring programs, and training to support teaching and learning at all sites.
  • Coordinates the work of curriculum committees and curriculum specialists and instructional coaches for the purpose of developing and implementing the PK-12 curriculum.
  • Facilitates the coordination and implementation of all programs supported by desegregation funding including the English Language Development Services at the district’s schools.
  • Facilitates committees and subcommittees. Develops strong personal relationships with teachers, principals, District administrators and community members while supporting the District’s vision and goals.
  • Develops proposals and funding applications for the purpose of enhancing resources enabling expansion of services to personnel across school levels.
  • Develops recommendations and plans for the use of financial resources for the purpose of monitoring expenditures within assigned budget areas.
  • Performs personnel functions (i.e. recruitment, hiring, evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity and ensuring that objectives are achieved.
  • Provides programs and/or services for parents (e.g. Parent Council, MDA Workshops, etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in understanding District philosophy, programs and objectives.
  • Research various information (e.g. courses, materials, training consultants, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs that meet staff training needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of supporting district objectives.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions In This Class Typically Require)

  • Master’s degree in job-related area
  • Teaching experience (3-5 years)
  • School/District leadership experience
  • Job-related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions In This Class Typically Require)

  • Arizona administrative certification preferred
  • Teaching certificate

KNOWLEDGE (position Requirements At Entry)

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; various position specific information learned on the job.

SKILLS (position Requirements At Entry)

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: plan and manage projects.

ABILITY (position Requirements At Entry)

ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicate with diverse groups; implement established curriculum; meet deadlines and schedules; record keeping.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
