Job Summary :
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Scottys Contracting and Stone, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our construction and paving operations. You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and paving equipment. Your expertise will help diagnose mechanical issues, perform routine and emergency repairs, and implement preventative maintenance practices to minimize downtime. Collaborating with a dedicated team, you will contribute to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, ensuring that our equipment meets industry standards and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities :
Maintenance & Repair : Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, and paving machinery.
Diagnostic Troubleshooting : Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
Component Replacement : Replace worn or damaged parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
Preventative Maintenance : Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Record Keeping : Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
Safety Compliance : Adhere to safety standards and regulations while performing work to ensure a safe work environment.
Collaboration : Work closely with other mechanics, operators, and supervisors to address equipment issues and improve operational efficiency.
Emergency Repairs : Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergencies in the field as needed.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.
Proven experience (typically 3 years) in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, preferably in the construction or paving industry.
Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Valid drivers license; CDL preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements :
1. Lifting : Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more, as required by specific tasks.
2. Stamina : Capability to stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods during maintenance and repair tasks.
3. Manual Dexterity : Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for using hand tools and operating diagnostic equipment effectively.
4. Bending and Squatting : Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling to access machinery components and perform repairs in confined spaces.
5. Climbing : Ability to climb ladders and access elevated areas of heavy equipment safely.
6. Mobility : Capability to move around job sites and navigate various terrains, including uneven ground and construction sites.
7. Vision : Adequate vision to inspect equipment, read diagnostic instruments, and interpret technical manuals.
8. Hearing : Ability to hear and respond to equipment sounds and alarms, as well as communicate effectively in noisy environments.
Candidates should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and may occasionally be required to perform physical tasks in challenging environments. Safety gear, such as gloves, helmets, and protective eyewear, is essential during all operations.
