About The Role
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the lab at the Emerge plant. The Laboratory Supervisor coordinates the sampling and routine testing to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid and liquid materials to ensure process and quality control measures are effective. The Lab Supervisor follows all policies and procedures to ensure that performed work exceeds the requirements of “Good Laboratory Practices” and to maintain the positive image of a reliable and efficient analytical laboratory. This role will be responsible for conducting quality control tests on barley and related products. The Lab Supervisor will also perform routine laboratory tasks, such as preparing samples, operating instruments, recording data, and maintaining equipment.

This role will be responsible for conducting quality control tests on barley and related products. The Lab Supervisor will also perform routine laboratory tasks, such as preparing samples, operating instruments, recording data, and maintaining equipment.
- Manages a Lab Technicians that assists with day-to-day tasks and operation of the lab. Provide training, guidance, leadership to Lab team.
- Coordinates the collection, testing and accurate entry of date for all required ingredients and plant processes. This will include but not be limited to raw ingredients, processing aids, in process product, completed products, and water sampling. Tests will include all data points included on master data record to include protein, crude fiber, water- soluble carbs, moisture, and solids. Additional testing as needed.
- Responsible for the laboratory cleanliness, safety, and inventory. Always follows lab and plant safety regulations.
- Responsible for the calibration of all instruments used in the Quality Control lab stations in the plant and in the QA laboratory on a scheduled frequency
- Assist in the testing of processing equipment after CIP has been completed, to ensure a proper clean in being achieved.
- Communicate with plant operators, managers, and customers regarding test results and product specifications.
- Work with FSQ manager in writing monthly quality reports and managing quality assurance program (This will be a collaboration with the FSQ manager not a specific duty of this position, FSQ manager and Plant manager will take the lead on managing the program)
- Collaborate with team to ensure we are following food safety, quality standards and meeting plant goals.
- Associate degree or higher in chemistry, biology, food science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience as a Lab Technician or similar role in the oilseed industry or a related field.
- 2 years of experience managing people.
- Knowledge of Barley make up, characteristics and processing and quality standards.
- Experience in operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a science or technical field is preferred.
