Payment Specialist – Job Description
Scout Energy is a private energy investment firm that acquires, operates and improves upstream conventional oil and gas and associated midstream properties for institutional investors. Scout’s business is both the management of private energy funds and the operation of the oil and gas assets it owns. Current employee base is approximately 1200 with 200 employees in the Dallas (headquarters) office.
Scout is seeking a Payment Specialist to oversee and manage all aspects of land payments including rental payments, minimum royalties, shut-in payments, and state and federal payments. This position will report to Scout’s Lead Lease Analyst and Land Manager as a part of our Land department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and validate lease agreements to ensure accurate calculation and processing of lease obligation payments
- Calculate and process minimum royalties as per lease terms and industry regulations
- Manage shut-in payments by monitoring well status and compliance with lease agreements
- Process and reconcile state and federal payments, ensuring timely and accurate submissions
- Coordinate with landowners, regulatory agencies, and internal departments to resolve payment discrepancies and inquiries
- Prepare and send out payment statements to leaseholders in compliance with lease agreements and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate records of payment transactions and update lease databases accordingly
- Work closely with the land department to ensure compliance with lease terms, regulatory requirements, and company policies
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and analysis related to lease payments
- Stay updated on industry regulations, lease terms, and best practices related to lease payments
Skills & Specifications
- Thorough understanding of lease obligation functions in a Land Department
- Experience with BLM, BIA and ONRR preferred
- Communicate well, verbally and in writing, with other departments and parties making inquiries
- Self-Motivated and detail-oriented
- Be adept in Microsoft Suite including, but not limited to, Excel and Word
- Work well with minimal supervision
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field a plus, but not required
- 5 years’ industry experience
- Experience with On Demand Land preferred
