Position Overview
Serve as the Camp Ranger for Wallwood Boy Scout Reservation (WBSR). Maintain and repair the facility’s structure, machinery, equipment, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Perform skilled trades work, such as carpentry or painting in the construction, repair, or alteration of structures such as walls, roofs, or office fixtures. Make periodic or special inspections of the premises to determine repair work necessary. May work from blueprints, drawings, or rough sketches. Protect the campgrounds by enforcing camp rules and regulations. Secure and monitor perimeters against unauthorized access. Identify and report safety hazards and maintenance problems in need of repair. Coordinate projects as needed.
Responsibilities
GIVE LEADERSHIP TO VOLUNTEERS: supervise and coordinate the development, maintenance, protection, and utilization of the Camp.
ESTABLISH BOOKKEEPING AND OTHER PROCEDURES as required to conform to Suwannee River Area Council practices of income and expenditures. Keep expenses in line with the approved budget.
INVESTIGATE accidents, vandalism, theft, poaching, and other violations on the property.
PROVIDE MAINTENANCE WORK FOR CAMP FACILITIES, as required when damages are discovered or reported
MAINTAIN A SCHEDULE FOR WORK MAINTENANCE, replacement, and costs: maintain a project record system. Be accountable for all materials, supplies, and equipment of the camp operations.
MAINTAIN HARMONIOUS RELATIONSHIPS with the local community, governmental services officials, and neighbors. Keep a friendly and helpful attitude toward co-workers, Scouts, Scouters, and visitors.
SERVE AS AN ADVISOR to the Properties and Camp-master committee and attend Program, Risk Management, & OA meetings as needed.
PREPARE WEEKLY REPORTS and a calendar of activities and accomplishments. Including new project ideas, costs, and volunteer relations.
Competencies

The position will be expected to know how and to teach the use of: hand tools, some power tools, and computers.
Mental Demands:
Education
- High school diploma
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Successful completion of Youth Protection training
- Submission of a BSA Adult volunteer application (for background check)
- Have a current valid state driver’s license
- Attend and successfully complete BSA Ranger school within the first year of employment
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor
- Ability to work with others to ensure council and BSA policies and guidelines are followed
- Ability to work in a team as well as independently
- Be dependable, organized, and flexible
- Enjoyment of the outdoors
Preferred:
3 years of experience in facility maintenance/management. Ability to communicate effectively, ability to build confidence, loyalty, team spirit, and a positive attitude with both volunteers and staff associates; ability to plan time effectively, ability to harness the resources at your disposal and to release the power within people to achieve desired goals. Ability to follow directions and achieve the overall objectives of Scouting. Recognizes the importance of a good working relationship with volunteers, as well as other Professional and Support staff members. Complete and maintain all BSA required training on time.

The worker will be subjected to the following conditions: both inside and outside environmental work, extreme heat and cold, hazards, atmospheric conditions, hazardous chemicals, lubricants and oils, poisonous insects, snakes and spiders, risk of slips, spills, falls and mechanical injury.

Flexible work schedule, plus compensation for authorized and approved business-related expenses, including phone and mileage reimbursement. We also observe all major holidays.
Salary Range: $35,000 – $50,000. Housing & utilities are negotiable.
