Position Overview
We are seeking a live-on-property Camp Ranger that has general knowledge in basic plumbing, electric, carpentry, vehicle maintenance, custodial, and general handyman skills. This person must be a problem solver, able to work under minimal supervision. Housing is provided as part of the compensation package.
Responsibilities
- Must reside on camp property in council-provided housing.
- Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders who use the property. Represent the council and be able to communicate effectively while enforcing the established policies and procedures.
- Cooperate closely with seasonal camp directors and their staff to provide a quality program and safe camp experience for youth and adult participants.
- Prepare for and promote volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups, and businesses looking for community service opportunities.
- Maintain harmonious relationships with local officials and governmental services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring communities. Build and maintain relationships to facilitate financial and volunteer support.
- Keep all physical facilities, property and equipment in operational condition and good appearance, being particularly alert to conditions which could affect health, safety, sanitation, and good organization of the camp.
- Develop and follow project schedules for regular inspections to determine essential repairs, routine maintenance, operational procedures, and ordering supplies. Coordinate and oversee repairs and improvement projects, either performing them personally or liaising with contractors as necessary. Maintain current and historical documentation of all repairs conducted at camp.
- Regularly inspect camp facilities and grounds to identify and rectify any safety hazards. Ensure all camp safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits, are in place, accessible, and fully stocked.
- Maintain campgrounds, trails, roads, and waterfront areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and environmentally sustainable. Oversee trash collection, recycling, and waste management in the camp. Manage landscaping and tree care, including trimming, mowing, and ensuring the health and safety of natural areas.
- Help develop and adhere to the camp budgets for annual operations, specific events, and capital projects. Comply with established business procedures including solicitation of bids, bookkeeping of petty cash, purchase orders and retaining business records.
- Participate in annual inspections/evaluations of facilities and properties. Ensure adherence to National Camp Standards.
- Attend relevant training, meetings, and events as required.
- Assist with maintenance needs at service centers or other camps as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Remain on-call for emergencies or urgent maintenance issues

- Regular evening and weekend responsibilities, such as volunteer engagement
- This position is exposed to all weather conditions
- This position requires the employees to work long, irregular hours when needed, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as demanded by the workload
- Physical work and physically demanding tasks such as lifting, hiking, climbing, and manual labor
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to register as a member of Scouting America
- Must pass a criminal history background check
