What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Golf Professional position at SCP HOSPITALITY MANAGER LLC?
The Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for providing direction and leadership of the day-to-day golf facility and is responsible to supervise and manage parts of the golf operations. Will also be responsible for coordinating events and special activities. The duties of the position shall be performed with a commitment to the highest level of customer service and total satisfaction of all customers.
The Assistant Golf Professional shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. They will be responsible for exemplifying the SCP’s Culture & Core Values.
The Assistant Golf Professional is required to accurately record all hours of work through the use of SCP’s timekeeping system. Accurately recording time is required to ensure that the Assistant Golf Professional is paid for all hours worked as required by the wage and hour laws. Working “off the clock” is strictly prohibited. If any manager or supervisor directs you to, or suggests that you should, perform work while not “on the clock,” you must notify Regional Director of People Services immediately. Similarly, the Assistant Golf Professional is not permitted to perform work after hours or from home without specific direction from their supervisor. In the event such work is authorized, all time spent working must be reported on the employee’s time record.
The Job
- Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
- Observing guest reactions and conferring frequently with team members to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Maintain positive guest relations at all times. Resolve guest complaints to over-the-moon satisfaction.
- Follow Hotel policies with lost and found items.
- Adhere to Hotel requirements for guest and team member accidents or injuries and in emergency situations.
- Continuously promote sanitation, safety, and security efforts.
- Encourage Social Media/5-star compliments or reviews on OTA’s.
- Upsell other resort services and amenities to guests.
- Assist with all opening and closing procedures.
- Assist with golfer check-in and fee collection: control and manage play.
- Assist in player development programs.
- Coordinates membership and ladies' league events.
- Have the ability to effectively instruct and teach the game of golf; provide quality golf instruction for members and guests while maintaining a credible golf game.
- Directly responsible for timely and consistently maintaining the club’s USGA Handicap System through the OGA.
- Assist with merchandise displays, inventory, tagging, and pricing of merchandise.
- Assist with pre-tournament setup, outside tournament setup, scoring, and tournament summaries.
- Assist in managing facility tournament operations including weekly events.
- Assist in tournament operations and weekly events including planning, pre-tournament contracts, post- tournament billing, promotion, course set-up, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow up.
- Assist in providing suitable training, reinforcement, and coaching for team members, as necessary.
- Conduct individual lessons and group clinics
- Collaborate with Manager to guide and direct team members to achieve established goals and objectives.
- Assist in the preparation of and communicate any adjustments to the weekly work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and labor forecast
- Assist in managing golf car operation, practice facility, and club storage service (as applicable).
- Provide club repair and club fitting services to customer
- Play golf with a variety of customers in competitive and non-competitive situations.
- Identify and recommend new ideas, technologies, or processes to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost saving
- Keep golf shop and outside service areas organized, neat and clean at all times.
- Assists with the golf equipment rental program.
- Inspect, plan and ensure that all materials and equipment are in complete readiness for service.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
- Access all functions of computer/software systems.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Cultivate collaborative, mutually supportive relationships with other departments and co-workers.
- Assist with management of outside service staff to ensure the highest quality of customer service is achieved.
- Coordinate breaks and assign work duties to team members.
- Ensure that team members report to work as scheduled. Document any late or absent team members. Report attendance issues to Manager.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings with team members and review all information pertinent to the day's business.
- Assist team members with their job functions to ensure optimum service to guests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Fluency in other languages is beneficial.
- Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with urgency and empathy.
- Professional in appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to learn, understand, and work within POS, PMS, CRM, and other Hospitality-specific software systems.

- Must have a valid State-Issued Driver's License.
- Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification
- Actively pursue PGA membership (if a PGA Associate) in a timely manner through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program.
- Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
- Utilize the resources of PGA player development programs such as Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, Tee it Forward and others.
Supervision
- Reports to the Director of Golf.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate required.
- 4-Year Degree Preferred.
- Experience in an upscale private, public, or resort club preferred.
- Class A PGA Professional or a Class B PGA Associate with the PGA of America preferred. If neither, must be actively seeking a career in the golf industry with intentions of entering the PGA PGM 3.0 program.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the golf industry.
- Prior hospitality experience preferred.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to stand and move freely about the property for the majority of the shift.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, and squeezing & overhead reaching occasionally.
- Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on a frequent basis.
- Must be able to frequently handle objects and equipment to maintain the property.
- Must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
- Must be able to climb stairs occasionally, both indoors and outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, heat).
- Must be able to work in variable room temperatures.
- Must be able to work with loud noises.
