DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Knowledge of current nursing practices, relevant statues and regulations.
- Administers first aid to injured students and or faculty.
- Nursing assessment of students or faculty with complaints of illness or injury.
- Maintains documentationof all care rendered. Nursing notes should be clear, concise and accurate.
- Notifies parent / guardian when necessary for a student who is ill or injured.
- Notifies parent / guardian when necessary for a student who is injured and given care and / or needs medical attention.
- Initiate the emergency response system, 911, for severe illnesses, injuries or allergic reactions.
- Completes accident reports promptly and accurately.
- Administer medication as ordered by a health practitioner and documents.
- Maintains communication with the CSN of changes in the health of the student population. This includes newly diagnosed chronic illness, severe injuries, use of Epi-Pen, student prescribed emergency medication administration, parent conflict and all matters she feels is pertinent.
- Assists the school nurses, physicians, dental hygienists, and other health personnel in their work, including maintaining the school health record of each student.
- Assist with health inspections for pediculosis and unidentified skin rashes.
- Advises teachers and students about procedures and schedules of health exams.
- Takes In-Service Courses and / or training to remain current in medical techniques and procedures.
- Performs all related tasks as requested by the principal, Chief School Nurse or CSN.
