The General Yard Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of duties including identifying/sorting ferrous or nonferrous materials, light maintenance or clean up.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Clean recycling yard by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass and loose paper debris, or moving barrels and bins.
- Perform weed-eating tasks around the yard as seasonal need dictates
- Extract chemicals from discarded appliances, such as air conditioners or refrigerators, using specialized machinery, such as refrigerant recovery equipment.
- Daily water/Gatorade distribution & refills for yard employees
- Assist with some Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Tasks.
- Inspect storm drains & outfalls.
- Install & replace storm drain inlet filters as needed.
- Clean-up small oil spills around the yard. (Putting Oil Dri mix on oil spots/spills, then cleaning up and disposing of the mix).
- Restocking Emergency Spill Kits around the yard.
- Placing Oil Drip Pads under equipment with leaks and replacing them as needed.
- Power washing equipment and boxes.
- Power washing porta-potty's and handwash stations around the yard
- Emptying and refilling handwash stations as necessary
- Ensure a clean, safe and orderly workplace; clean and prepare sites by removing debris and possible hazards
- Housekeeping around both shredders to include clearing debris off and around conveyors & all walking/working surfaces regularly.
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Follow instructions from Yard Supervisors
- Adhere to operating and health and safety protocols
- All other duties as assigned
- Proficient ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written form
- Proficient ability to safely use variety of hand tools such as snip cutters, brooms and shovels
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to work overhead, climb ladders, kneel, and stand for long periods
- Ability and desire to work in all elements, such as rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.
- Ability to handle stressful situations, manage time, and multitask
