Description
Scrap Management of Topeka is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator. This position requires the expert, safe operation of various types of heavy equipment to move, organize, stack, load and unload processed and unprocessed scrap metal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : The following are general responsibilities associated with the position as directed :
- Operates heavy equipment in compliance with the company operating safety policies and procedures
- Moves and positions raw materials and finished components with use of material moving equipment
- Conducts routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment; maintains accurate records in the form of pre and post shift inspections
- Monitor and maintain all production equipment, i.e. material handlers, front end wheel loaders, track excavator with shear attachment, semi tractors, rail car mover, skid steer, balers, shears, etc.
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures
- Expected to report any defects or needed repairs to supervisor immediately
- Willing to cross-train in other positions and assists other employees as needed
- Ensure a clean, safe and orderly workplace; clean and prepare sites by removing debris and possible hazards.
- Follow instructions from Shredder & Maintenance Superintendent
- Must be able to identify and sort various scrap metal commodities
- Safely categorize and stack scrap metal material
- Attend all scheduled training and meetings
