What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scrap Metal Inspector position at Scrap Management of Kansas Inc?
Description:
Adhere to company safety policy and all OSHA requirements- Interact with suppliers and peddlers on a daily basis
- Demonstrate good customer service
- Inspect all inbound scrap metal deliveries
- Document (using tablet or another company-issued device) any non-conforming items in scrap metal deliveries and report findings to scale operator and commercial personnel. On-the-job training provided.
- Make appropriate deductions for loads containing excessive non-metallic material
- Maintain constant communication with office personnel, operators, and on-site company drivers by radio and phone
- Monitor and direct traffic flow through the yard
- Crosstrain in multiple roles and on various pieces of mobile equipment to assist general operations when shorthanded
- Use handheld Geiger counter to survey loads and pinpoint location of lightly radioactive material
- Maintain hard copy of commodity description with picture handbook
- As needed, present ‘lessons learned’ and/or training to staff at plant operations meeting
- Make recommendations for process improvement through proper channels as needed
- Crosstrain staff on inspection procedures
Minimum 1 year of experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment- Ability to navigate in, and adapt to, a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to work Saturdays and extended hours during the week
- Ability to adhere to schedule
- Ability to work well under pressure and diffuse tense interpersonal situations
- Must have dependable transportation to and from work
- Must have a cellular phone
- Ability to stand/walk/remain outside in most weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs several times a day
- Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions
- Prior experience operating heavy equipment is a plus
- Knowledge of different metals (metal identification) a plus
- Ability to speak Spanish and English (Bilingual) a plus
