Since its inception, SCRI has contributed to pivotal

research

that has helped advance the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today.

The Oncology APP works under supervision, or in collaboration with, practice physicians involved in the care of individuals, families and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis. This role will be located at the SCRI Oncology Partners community oncology clinic at TriStar Skyline Medical Center. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine. Responsibilities may include duties related to prevention, screening, patient care, management, and research. May serve as direct caregiver, health care consultant, patient educator, administrator, or researcher. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patientsÂ
  • Acts as a liaison between the Hospitalist at Tristar Skyline Medical Center and the providers in the practice to coordinate hospital consults and follow-up visits post-discharge
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicatedÂ
  • Performs procedures with minimal supervisionÂ
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides educationÂ
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs
  • Often incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practiceÂ
  • Solid knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion
  • Likely to provide case management for patients and their families
  • Sometimes serves as a resource for nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials
  • May provide palliative care for the patient and their families as neededÂ
  • May promote/provide staff education
  • Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals, weekend or after-hour calls
  • May mentor new advanced practice providers
  • May precept APP students
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Â

  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program
    • This position typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, preferably in Oncology.
    • RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. AOCNP preferred
    • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.Â
  • Physician Assistant:
    • Current state license as a Physician Assistant in practicing state. Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
    • Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. This position typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, preferably in Oncology.
    • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
