Scripps Pediatric Health Express Clinic
General Description
The Scripps Pediatric Health Express Clinic Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) works autonomously, providing first line acute care for minor conditions under supervising physicians. The APC works to ensure prompt and convenient access for scheduled and walk-in patients utilizing in-person and telehealth modalities, strives to ensure successful growth of the practice, and provides excellent representation of Scripps in all professional aspects. When necessary, the APC facilitates transfer to a higher level of care to the patients’ primary care provider/care team, specialty, and/or urgent care or emergency department.
The APC is expected to meet the highest standards for clinical capability, competence, professional education, quality improvement and overall excellence in patient care delivery. The position requires a current California Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license and DEA furnishing certificate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides medical care for common acute pediatric conditions, including, but not limited to:
- Minor infections, including those involving the respiratory, genitourinary, dermatologic, ocular, and gastrointestinal systems
- Musculoskeletal complaints and minor injuries
- Asthma, allergy
- Able to diagnose and treat patients from age 3 months though 17 years
- Reports to Supervising Physician and to APC Supervisor on a regular basis and to Medical Director
- Works with operational team to ensure a smooth operation of clinic services
- Provides immunizations as required
- Is adept at POC testing (Point of care)
- Recognizes limits of care and discusses cases with supervisor appropriately

- Adheres to the latest evidence-based clinical standards
- Has special interest in the establishment and growth of increased health access points for patient care
- Is comfortable with independent practice with at least one year of clinical experience.
- Has flexibility in schedule and duties to include “on call”
- Is proficient in use of electronic medical records (EPIC or equivalent EMR)
- Interest in process improvement
- Is committed to professional self-improvement and continuing education
- Works well in a team setting
- Is certified in BLS
- Supports all the institution’s mission and goals
- Is willing and capable of completing daily checks for quality control of meds, tests and equipment.
Requirements:
- Active NP or PA license to practice medicine within the state of California
- >1 year of clinical APC experience.
- Active furnishing license (NP only)
- DEA license and completed controlled substance course (PA only)
