What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court TV Anchor position at Scripps Media, Inc.?
Court TV anchors have a unique skillset compared to hosts/anchors in the general TV community, they are experts in courtroom procedure and the law.
Responsibilities
- It’s imperative that anchors drive the development of their show and that their DNA be woven into the rundown each day.
- Partner with producers to develop segments and rundowns that break down legal nuances of a trial and find ways to make the stories relatable to the audience.
- Intimately involved in the creation and development of their respective shows. They will also show up in other dayparts for talkback interactions and to provide expert legal analysis, especially during the “lunch break” (The Daily Sidebar) in which all on-air talent currently at HQ should be on the set.
- Implement this program model during the broadcast of taped trials.
- Throughout the programming day, engage social media followers and find ways to build the Court TV fan base.
- As journalists, pursue marquee guests for their shows, and occasionally travel to conduct interviews for the network. During high-profile trials, may also travel to host shows from the courthouse.
Qualifications
- Experience in practicing criminal law or covering crime stories and trials
- 5+ years of television journalism experience
- Anchoring experience preferred
- Live legal analysis and trial reporting experience
