POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant I
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Molecular and cell biology experiments, including RNA and protein analysis.
- Mouse colony maintenance, experimentation, and tissue processing.
- Managing appropriate disposal of chemical/ biological waste.
- Actively participate in literature searches and analysis of published articles relevant to MacTel and associated projects as assigned by LMRI staff scientist.
- Attend and participate in MacTel meetings and related conferences.
- Help collect, process and catalogue blood samples from human participants.
- Responsible for IACUC related news and updates; Update animal use protocol as deemed necessary.
- Manage laboratory equipment by scheduling preventative maintenance and repairs when necessary.
- Manage lab supplies and sanitation.
- Responsible for keeping IBC protocol up to date.
- Point of contact for the lab’s scheduled inspection which includes IACUC, biosafety, chemical audits, CUPA and fire department inspections.
- Maintain lab safety standards
RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related subjects preferred.
- Requires 1-3 years’ relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with mouse colony management and handling highly desirable.
- Experience in a lab setting desirable.
- Eagerness to learn basic lab managing duties and experimental methods.
- Capable of being a point of contact for any lab related issues; safety, inventory, maintenance, and animal health concerns.
- Someone who can have a flexible schedule and be available Monday through Friday from 9AM – 5PM. Some days require early experiments at 6 AM.
- Capable of lifting items weighing about ~50 lbs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
- Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a part time position 20 hours per week.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $20.67 to $25.06 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
