Director of Sales And Business Development – Commission-Based (Independent Contractor)

Role Overview

We’re looking for a self-motivated, knowledgeable, and passionate Director of Sales And Business Development to partner with our existing sales representative team and grow in-house wholesale business with independent retail partners, national chains, corporate gifting, as well as the weddings & events space. We strongly believe in diversification of revenue, interest in growing all areas of the business is required. As a vertically integrated U.S. based manufacturer, we have endless opportunities for luxury candle customization to differentiate in the marketplace.


As an independent contractor, you’ll leverage your sales expertise and industry connections to drive new business, foster long-term relationships, and assist with managing current relationships. 


This role is fully remote for the right, self-motivated candidate but also offers the opportunity to work in-studio with flexible hours in Warwick, New York. This commission-based role with the potential for recurring revenue from repeat orders, plus performance-based bonuses for achieving key milestones. This role reports directly to our CEO.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Promote and sell Scripted Fragrance’s core candle lines as well as extensive custom candle offerings to a wide variety of customers.
  • Develop and manage relationships with independent retailers, corporate event companies as well as wedding professionals.
  • Work alongside existing sales representatives to support efforts and initiatives in their respective territories.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and product knowledge to all wholesale customers.
  • Meet and exceed sales targets through effective prospecting, presentations, and follow-ups.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring a positive image of Scripted Fragrance in the marketplace.
  • Work directly with the CEO to establish meaningful sales goals, opportunities for growth, as well as wholesale marketing/ key messaging.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to enhance brand visibility.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in sales, preferably in retail, corporate gifting, and/or weddings and events.
  • A passion to scaling small business and leveraging the power of being vertically integrated.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-starter with a results-driven mindset and the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Knowledge of weddings and special events is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with independent retailers or in the personalized gifting or candle industry is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales Management, Business Operations, Finance or Communication is preferred.
  • Additional experience in business, sales, or candles/ gift industry is a plus..
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing tools and CRM.
  • Proficiency in Shopify, MarketTime, and Faire preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.
  • This position will require on occasion the ability to lift boxes weighting up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time during trade show events.
