Quality Inspector I

SCS Interiors, located in Duluth, MN, serves individual and corporate clients within the aerospace, automotive, commercial, and maritime industries. Our primary business line is aviation. Within that, our primary client is Cirrus Aircraft. We are seeking to add a Quality Inspector to our team. If you have any prior interest or experience, we'd love to talk to you and give you a tour of our shop.

Utilizing sound prototyping and lean manufacturing principles, SCS Interiors cuts and sews upholstery for aircraft, autos, auditoriums, and other commercial entities. Our services and products are creative, cost-effective, and unique for each customer.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This individual will work in the completion stage of quality control and continuous improvement activities at SCS Interiors. Responsibilities will include: inspection of all SCS Interiors’ products; support processes for ISO; assist with making product-specified labels; facilitate process efficiencies and effectiveness on the production floor.

SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following functions:

• Concurrent production and final inspection of all SCS Interiors’ products before delivery to the customer.
• Obtain Certifications of Compliance for outgoing SCS Interiors’ products.
• Monitor the Receiving Records process to assure that the person completing the process on a daily basis is doing so accurately.
• Inspect First Article and First Piece Items as they occur.
• Inspect inventory dates and assure that the oldest materials are being used first.
• Assist in periodic shelf life audits of stock to ensure materials are within required shelf life
• Audit the quality of documentation in the Production area on a regular basis.
• Facilitate the implementation of the SCS Interiors’ Quality Management System Program
• Complete Audits as requested;
• Participates as a team member in the implementation and maintenance of ISO standards;
• Assist with the Supplier Survey every two years
• Support the ISO standards quality and risk management expectations at all times;
• Participate in the ISO Certification assessments as requested.
• Work cooperatively with the Director of Quality and Director of Production to assess proficiency in work performance for new hires and completion of respective training records.
• Participate in SCS Interiors’ Quality Management Program.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Experience:

• Prior work experience in quality control/quality inspection work required
• Applied experience in measuring and determining compliance with drawing specifications
• Understands and can explain the importance of traceability in materials
• Willing to participate in professional development/continuing educational activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be able to read, write, and understand written and oral English instructions
• Able to effectively utilize computer technology for position responsibilities
• Able to support SCS Interiors’ Mission Statement as well as policies and procedures
• Maintains a current, valid driver’s license
• Able to relate well and effectively to other individuals;
• Demonstrates strong public relations/customer service skills, tact, and diplomacy
• Represents SCS Interiors in a professional manner at all times
• Works effectively with the Management team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

The individual in this position may be involved in bending, lifting, reaching, and pushing/pulling consistent with production and office work.  The individual is expected to follow safety guidelines for proper lifting, using assistive devices as needed. Continuous work at a computer may occur 2 to 3 hours per day or more.  In addition, this individual should take regular breaks from the computer and do stretching exercises for stress release from keyboarding and related computer work.  When leaving the Company for outside obligations or when driving the Company van, this individual should follow all pertinent laws and rules for safe driving. Safety should be considered at all times when dealing with weather conditions.  This position will follow all SCS Interiors’ Safety policies and procedures.
