South Carolina State University is seeking to hire an experienced and talented Accounts Payable representative. Under the supervision of the Director of Accounts Payable and Director of Finance for Public Service and Agriculture (PSA) and 1890 Research and Extension (R&E), this position requires strong communication, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Performs professional duties in the creation and maintenance of accounts payable transactions. Verifies documentation of financial transactions and ensures timeliness and accuracy of payment for PSA and 1890 R&E vendors.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs professional duties in the creation and maintenance of accounting records, the verification and documentation of financial transactions and management of the PSA and 1890 R&E budgets. Processes accounts payable transactions for PSA and 1890 R&E, ensuring proper documentation is attached and appropriate funding stream has been assigned. Receives and responds to vendor inquiries regarding payment of invoices. Resolves any errors specific to accounts payable transactions for PSA and 1890 R&E or its associated grant accounts.
Performs account reconciliations to verify all payments were issued. Assists with account analyses, aging payables, and filing of accounting documents.
Process invoices and ensures all invoices have the required support needed for the payment for PSA and 1890 R&E. Verifies payment amount for each invoice and safeguards against overpayment or payment duplication. Also, verifies invoices against purchase orders.
· Analyze vendor statements for accuracy, to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner and ensure proper posting of invoices and vendor payments.
· Obtain proper information and/or data regarding invoice payments.
· Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data.
· Ability to read, understand, and apply complex state and university policies and procedures.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field and professional experience in a related are a such as accounting, auditing, finance or banking.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide exceptional customer service and work with diverse groups of people.
· Strong initiative with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
· Knowledge of office practices and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of accounting, auditing, banking, budgeting, and financial management; Knowledge of state government fiscal and accounting processes; Ability to interpret and analyze financial data, records, and reports; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Skill in the use of mathematical concepts; Ability to communicate effectively. Employee must be exceptionally motivated and dependable, and able to perform with limited supervision.
