What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Nutrition and Health Extension Agent position at SCSU 1890 Research and Extension?
Education: Individual should possess the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, nutrition, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, public health, psychology, or related area with three (3) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience to include teaching in family, health, and nutrition areas.
Position Summary: This position will be responsible for coordinating the Family, Nutrition and Health program in the geographic area offering programs about nutrition, food safety, money management, and related subject matter areas. It will establish a health and wellness outreach program including chronic disease self-management, as well as targeted nutrition and health programs for seniors and families with children. It will address financial capacity of individuals and families by working with them to stretch limited food dollars to saving and investing to plan for the future. This position will address these critical needs by delivering educational programs to a wide variety of audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
· Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
· Ability to speak to/teach large groups of clientele
· Ability to organize and carry out activities and programming for youth
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, region, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele
· Ability to show high standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits
· Ability to express thoughts clearly and concisely through written and verbal communication
· Ability to work as a team member and engage with groups and committees
· Ability to design, coordinate, and teach educational programs to meet community needs
· Proven skills in leadership and management
· Individual will be required to develop knowledge of the Land Grant University System and the history, philosophy, organization and the objects of 1890 Research.
· A valid driver's license is required. Individual will work with program leaders and staff in short-term and long-term planning to develop statewide initiative plans which reflect the program needs and priorities for the counties, as well as the state and federal commitments.
Preferred requirements
· Individual should possess a master’s in education, nutrition, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology degree or related area with at least five (5) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience to include teaching in family, health, and nutrition areas.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Provides leadership for Program Assistants and volunteers in delivering Family, Nutrition and Health programs.
· Implements the SC State 1890 Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity plan
· Utilizes the expertise of and works closely with advisory groups, community leaders, public officials and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs
· Develops a Plan of Work that is equitable in meeting the varied socio-economic needs of the region
· Develops and conducts relevant interdisciplinary programs with others based on critical issues
· Collaborates with other agencies and community groups to plan and implement programs
· Conducts promotional efforts to expand the public’s view of 1890 extension programming
· Utilizes current research data on emerging issues in program development and teaching
· Demonstrates personal interest and involvement in community by participating in and supporting civic/community activities/organizations and networking with community leaders
· Prepare and submit all reports and invoices to the State Office. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the regional extension director.
· The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision.
· The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities.
· Individual must be able to relate to diverse disadvantaged rural/urban people as well as professionals.
· Overnight in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
