What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Nutrition and Health /Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Agent position at SCSU 1890 Research and Extension?
Academic Preparation
* A Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences, Public Health or related area. Master’s degree preferred.
* Successful experience in program development and management, demonstrated communication ability as well as skills in leadership and management.
*The ability to design, coordinate, and teach educational programs to meet community needs, relating to diverse audiences, and
*A demonstrated ability to multi-task, work as a team member, and with groups and committees.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
· Plans, conducts, and coordinates nutrition education programs targeting Snap-Ed eligible audiences and limited resource families.
· Utilizes the expertise of advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing nutrition education programs.
· Develops plan of work that meets the needs of low income, Snap-Ed eligible audiences, both youth and adults.
· Evaluates and monitors Snap-Ed outreach in the communities.
· Develops and conducts relevant interdisciplinary programs with other staff members based on critical issues.
· Collaborates with other agencies and community groups to implement programs.
· Conducts promotional efforts to expand the public’s knowledge of Extension family, nutrition and health programs.
· Utilizes current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching.
· Demonstrates personal interest and involvement in community by participating in and supporting civic/community activities/organizations and networking with community leaders.
· Maintains adequate records for reporting and evaluating purposes. Makes reports to appropriate groups and individuals including University staff and public officials through media, personal contacts, and group meetings.
· Maintains a high degree of professional competency and pursues a program of professional improvement through in-service training, membership and involvement with professional organizations, professional education, and personal study.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel within the region may be required. Overnight in-state and out-of-state travel may be required on occasion.

This position is federally funded by Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions. This is a joint position 70% SNAP Ed and 30% Family, Nutrition and Health.
