Summary
We are seeking a Surveyor to join our team at S.D. Ireland. The Surveyor is responsible for assisting project teams with the field construction effort to ensure that each project is constructed according to design specifications while maintaining safety.
DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
The Surveyor is responsible for assisting project teams with the field construction effort to ensure that each project is constructed according to design specifications while maintaining safety.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
- Professionally represent S.D. Ireland and their core values of Safety, Quality, Family & Excellence!
- Provides leadership, guidance and vision.
- Shall have a working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, permits, industry standards and practices, and GPS grading and grades. Shall work towards proficiency in these items.
- Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Superintendent.
- Review and understand job specific cost codes prior to starting work.
- Work towards understanding Vtrans and FAA pay items and specifications.
- Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
- Establish and maintain site layout and construction staking for performance of excavation and site work activities.
- Establish and check grade for utility installations.
- Support GPS motor grader and/or paver.
- Perform daily site inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Perform job tasks in accordance with industry best practices and requirements (lifting, carrying, sitting, walking, and climbing).
- Perform As-Built surveys as needed.
- Perform general labor duties as required for successful completion of projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
DOCUMENTATION
- As-Built Record Drawing preparation
- Quantity calculation and documentation.
EMPLOYEE SUPERVISION
- Assist in the supervision of field personnel as needed.
SAFETY
- Verify that DIGSAFE has been notified and marked before digging.
- Assist with the adherence of the SDI Safety Plan.
- Assist in the training and instruction of all employees as to the hazards of their work and safe work practices.
- Be responsible for housekeeping and conducting regular inspections of work areas for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly guarded and that guards are in place when equipment is in operation.
- Set an example for employees by wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce their use.
- Assist in the reporting of all incidents and/or injuries immediately.
- Report all incidents and submit an Accident/Injury Report to a Safety Officer.
- Must complete OSHA 30 and HAZWOPR 40 training
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
