Opportunity Overview
SD Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Biomedical Research Scientist / Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Genetics or Neuroscience for advanced scientific research, engineering, and technology development. As a leading agency in health innovation, ARPA-H focuses on creating breakthrough technologies and methodologies to advance the health of the nation. The researcher will play a critical role in driving this mission forward. The successful applicant will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to conduct rigorous research and develop cutting-edge solutions that address complex health challenges faced by our nation.
The scientist in this role will participate in research projects that align with ARPA-H's strategic objectives. You will collaborate with the ARPA-H Program Manager and team to effectuate bold research initiatives, support the development, funding, and management of new and existing programs to meet the mission of accelerating better health outcomes for everyone.

Responsibilities Include but are limited to:
- Assist, support and provide advice to the Program Manager to further the development and progress of new and existing programs.
- Conduct thorough technical scientific evaluation of the current R&D landscape to identify gaps in research portfolios and address critical needs that are aligned with the ARPA-H mission.
- Monitor and track performers progress toward established metrics.
- Read and digest complex information and develop team and executive level briefings for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Utilize strong logical and critical thinking skills to critically review scientific and technical data.
- Integrate into an existing team to support current ARPA-H efforts and operate independently and in a group environment in support of technical R&D efforts.
- Perform basic administrative tasks such as collecting, sorting, analyzing, and writing Internal programmatic reports/briefings on relevant topics in a health-related field.
- Some CONUS travel is expected (~10-20%) as needed.
Requirements Overview
- Ph.D., MD, or MD/PhD in Genetics, Neuroscience, or a related scientific field.
- Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years hands-on experience in at least three of the following or related fields in one of the following two general categories:
Category One: Genetics, genetic medicines development, translational medicine, clinical medicine, clinical trials, rare diseases, patient advocacy, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, AI development, iPS cell technology;
Category Two: Brain plasticity, brain-computer interfaces, attention, learning, computational models, neuroscience, neurobiology, neurodevelopment, neuroanatomy, or psychedelic-assisted therapies, mental health, anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorders.
- Ability to conduct and/or oversee scientific research.
- Experience working with government clients.
- Ability for quick response and dedicated to continuous improvement.
- Willingness to manage multiple tasks at once and adhere to guidelines, budgets, and deadlines.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Extraordinary oral and written communication skills are required. Highly experienced and facile with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, including an ability to create impactful storytelling narrative PPT slides on the fly in high-pressure environments on urgent deadlines.
- Experience with ARPA processes and direct support to Government program managers highly preferred.
- Prefer experience supporting DARPA or related Federal "ARPA" agencies (IARPA, ARPA-E, ARPA-H, HSARPA).
- Alternate preferable experience at NIH, CDC, FDA, Public Health Service, NSF, USDA.
