Job Description
The Tax Manager is responsible for federal and state compliance related matters including but not limited to multi-state income, sales and use tax filings, federal income tax compliance assistance, audit defense, tax planning and research.
Requirements
Job Duties
- Manage and review federal and multi-state filings including but not limited to:
- Sales and use tax
- Tire tax/fees & other excise taxes
- Personal property tax
- Federal and state income tax provision tracking and related documentation
- Annual reports
- Form 1099 reporting
- Federal and state R&D tax credit documentation
- Other state and local filings such as payroll-based tax incentives as needed
- Lead sales tax audits
- Potential international taxation matters including possible IC-DISC data capture and foreign jurisdiction tax matters as they arise
- Work in conjunction with accounting firm to monitor and research changes in tax laws and tax rates
- Oversee the transactional activity of the business to ensure appropriate tax and fees are being collected, coordinating necessary changes when applicable
- Support audit requests by providing information to auditors and responding to inquiries in a timely manner
- Maintain data to support future audits
- Ensure timely filings of federal and state income tax payments
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Manage tax related fixed asset system
- Assist with tax compliance-related due diligence on Company buy-side M&A opportunities
- Research potential state and local economic development and tax incentive availability and documentation compliance for any awarded.
- Assist Company owners with selected personal tax matters related to their Company and affiliate ownership interests, as approved by finance team leadership
- Adhere to and enforce company rules and regulations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid understanding of accounting and finance principles, sales/use tax, and awareness of best practices
- Leadership skills with an emphasis on problem solving, motivation, communication, and planning
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated history of good work habits including attendance, quality, production, documentation, good judgment, and decision making
- Ability to embrace change and work as a change agent
- Broad experience with Microsoft Office programs (particularly Excel/Google Sheets) and full suite accounting ERPs
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
Experience
- 5 years of experience in corporate tax-related field
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Prior experience within automotive industry / products a plus
- NetSuite experience a plus
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will work closely with staff accountants with tax-related responsibilities
Certificates & Licenses
- CPA desirable but not required
Physical Demands
Ability to sit and stand appropriately for 8 or more hours at a time. Occasionally lifting of 25-50lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday serving as primary work week. As required to support the needs of the business; weekend work hours will additionally be required with team.
