The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applicants for a 9-month, full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track faculty position at the academic rank of Assistant Professor in Computer Science with a tentative begin date of Spring 2024. This position is supervised by the Department Head of EECS at SDSU.South Dakota State University promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access.We are seeking applicants who are interested in developing an active research program that engages SDSU students and seeks external funding. Several faculty members in the EECS department are NSF-funded and publish in top research venues, with concentrations in big data, computer networks, natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering is active in research activities, and the college has received two prestigious NSF CAREER awards in the past two years.RESPONSIBILITIES:The ideal candidate will be expected to teach and perform research in one of the following preferred areas in computer science (CS); software engineering (SE), Big Data, cloud computing, machine learning and deep learning, or closely related areas. The successful candidate is expected to establish and sustain an independent and vibrant research agenda that includes securing independent funding from various sources, mentoring/supervising graduate students in research, and disseminating research results in leading scientific journals and conference proceedings. Teaching responsibilities will include instructing standard undergraduate courses in CS and developing/delivering upper-level courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The candidate will work with graduate and undergraduate students on existing CS/SE and university research programs. The candidate will also develop a curriculum and demonstrate effective teaching in classroom and lab settings for undergraduate and graduate students. The ideal candidate will contribute to professional societies through research, teaching, and service to the diversity of thought and excellence of the next generation of computer scientists. We seek individuals with a strong interest to collaborate with existing research expertise in the domain areas in EECS and the Jerome J.
