Northern State University seeks a Director of Nursing/Department Chair of Nursing, a full-time,twelve-month position, to begin August 2023.Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, invites applications for the position of Director ofNursing/Department Chair of Nursing. This individual will lead the launch of a new BSNprogram at NSU, including establishment of program accreditation and approval by the SDBoard of Nursing. The University seeks a candidate with administrative experience, successfulteaching, and substantial knowledge of the Nursing discipline. The Director/Chair will lead anewly formed Department of Nursing in the College and Arts and Sciences and work closelywith faculty, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Provost to articulate andfulfill the Department’s role in recruiting and retaining students to fill critical nursing needs inthe region and state. This position includes promoting the goals of the department by facilitatingexcellence in teaching and service. The Director/Chair reports to, and works directly with, theDean of the College of Arts and Science.Position Summary: The Director/Chair is responsible for overseeing all matters related to theacademic programs offered by the Department of Nursing: curriculum development; staffing(recruitment, hiring, workload, evaluation, and professional development); student success;clinical placements; expanding access on campus and through E-Learning, budgeting andplanning; program assessment; resource development/grant writing; accreditation processes, andregulatory compliance and reporting.Qualifications: Doctoral degree in nursing required. A minimum of seven years of experience in clinical nursing, nursing administration, or nursing education, or any combination of such experience, preferably in a baccalaureate degree program Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of residency and eligibility for licensure in South Dakota. Professional certification and/or licensure in a specialty area in nursing. Excellent interpersonalskills including ability to work cooperatively with faculty and departmental staff and students.Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, independentjudgement, and work collaboratively. Desired experience serving a rural region. Positive service-oriented attitude and follow-through to plan, organize, and manage a diverse workload withattention to detail. Demonstrated ability with successful grant writing
