South Dakota State University’s School of Health and Consumer Sciences is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Instructor of Aviation Education. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us in the Aviation Program. This is a 9-month, 100% time, benefit eligible position. This position is supervised by the Director of School of Health and Consumer Sciences.South Dakota State University promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access.RESPONSIBILITIES:This position will teach aviation related courses and maintain a standard teaching load with assignments through the various levels and types of courses offered in the aviation program, serve on committees at the college, school, and program levels and provide service to the profession, the industry, and the region. As a mid-sized aviation program, the person in this position will work closely with other aviation faculty to develop curriculum and guide the scope of the program. This position allows a qualified candidate to explore many aspects of an accredited collegiate aviation program including engaging in curriculum development, assessment and accreditation efforts, and student recruitment and retention, as well as other duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s Degree in Aviation, Education, or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;Demonstrated teaching, aviation, or industry experience related to the curriculum;Strong interpersonal skills;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Sponsorship is not available for this position, must be authorized to work in the U.S.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate;Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Airplane Single Engine, Instrument-Airplane, or Airplane Multi-Engine ratings;Demonstrated flight instructor experience;Current FAA medical with at least second-class privileges.BENEFITS:South Dakota State University offers a wide range of benefits including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave.
