Director, Assistant Controller (Nonprofit Organization)
New opening with a Mission-Driven Organization headquartered in Boston! This Director / Assistant Controller level role will report to the VP of Finance with a dotted line to the CFO. The individual in this role will be responsible for management and mentorship of the Accounting Team, as well as full ownership of the Financial Statements including month-end / quarter-end / year-end close.

Accounting & Financial Management
- Responsible for supervision, mentorship, and professional development of the Accounting Team.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax and regulatory requirements. Develop, implement and enhance existing controls and processes to ensure a strong system of internal controls.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual close and reporting cycles to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Identify and implement processes, technology, and policies to shorten the monthly and annual close processes.
- Oversee the payroll staff and process to ensure payments made to employees and contractors are timely and accurate.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit and tax filing process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CFO; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and oversee preparation of financial analyses for the CFO.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting with the CFO, leveraging financial planning software. Help drive adoption of financial planning tool within the organization.
- Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection process is followed to support cash flow management.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance departments overall policy and procedure manual.
- Ad hoc projects as they arise (systems implementations, integrations, upgrades, process improvement, etc).
Education & Experience:
- REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in finance and accounting, including Supervisory experience
- CPA / Public Accounting experience highly preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Administration/CPA or related degree
- Experience with GAAP, as well as experience overseeing operational accounting functions (AP / AR / Payroll / Cash Management)
- Experience with Accounting / ERP Systems
