This exciting role involves assisting our aquarists in maintaining our vibrant marine and freshwater displays, delivering hands-on care to our animals, and engaging with our guests to create unforgettable experiences! 🌈

Qualifications & Experience

🔑 Key Objectives:As an Animal Welfare Host, you'll play a vital role in providing excellent care for our exhibits, assisting with water quality testing, and engaging our guests with exciting presentations. Get ready to be part of a team that’s as passionate about animals as you are!

• 🐟 Provide daily care of animal exhibits, including diet preparation, feeding, and general maintenance of aquatic displays.
• 📋 Maintain accurate records related to aquarium systems and animal health.
• 💧 Assist with water quality testing to ensure our animals thrive in a safe environment.
• 🌟 Deliver interactive programming and presentations to engage guests about our displays and marine life.
• 🧽 Assist with cleaning and maintaining the back areas of the aquarium, ensuring high standards of care.
• 🌱 Collaborate with the team to help develop and improve our display areas in line with long-term goals.
• 🚨 Ensure compliance with AZA and Merlin Health and Safety standards.

🎯 Key Responsibilities:You’ll work closely with the Curator and Displays Team to ensure the best care for our animals and an unforgettable experience for our guests. Key duties include:

• 🧽 Help with cleaning, diet prep, feeding, and general animal care.
• 🎤 Lead interactive programming and guest presentations that bring our aquatic exhibits to life!
• 🐠 Act as a tender for SCUBA dives during tank maintenance (if certified).
• 🌍 Contribute to the development of display areas in line with company goals and animal well-being.
• 💡 Support the team with any other animal husbandry tasks as needed.

🛡️ Health & Safety:Your role is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of both our guests and our animals:

• 🛑 Follow all Health and Safety regulations and ensure safe working practices.
• ⚠️ Manage risks, report hazards, and take corrective action when necessary.
• 🌊 Ensure the safety and security of the public at all times.

🎓 Background, Experience & Qualifications:To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

• 🐠 Knowledge of aquatic animal care in a professional aquarium setting (preferred).
• 🌊 Experience in guest services or working in a public-facing role.
• 🎓 A degree or currently pursuing a degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology) or relevant experience in animal care.
• 🌟 SCUBA certification (Rescue Diver preferred) is a plus!
• 👀 Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions closely.
• 🧽 Ability to maintain a clean, organized work environment while performing repetitive tasks.
• 💬 Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact positively with guests and colleagues.

🏞️ Work Environment:

• 🌡️ The role involves working in both indoor and outdoor areas, with varying temperatures and weather conditions.
• 🏙️ Occasional travel within the city may be required for special tasks or events.
• 🌟 Flexible working hours, with some weekends, holidays, and evening shifts required to accommodate the attraction's schedule.

• Flexible hours based on the attraction's operating days/times.
• Some weekend and holiday shifts are required to support the aquarium's operations.
