Job Summary:
The Assistant Boatyard Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the boatyard, including maintenance, repairs, hauling and launching of vessels, and ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge of marine vessels and systems, and excellent customer service skills to ensure a high-quality experience for boat owners and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all boatyard operations including haul-out, blocking, launching, pressure washing, and storage of vessels.
- Supervise and schedule boatyard staff and subcontractors.
- Oversee maintenance and repair projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility and equipment to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Maintain records of work performed, parts used, and customer interactions.
- Coordinate with the marina office and service department to schedule boat movements and project timelines.
- Provide estimates for repair and maintenance work.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Train and mentor staff on safety procedures and technical tasks.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in boatyard or marina operations; prior management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of marine systems, boat repair, and yard equipment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and local maritime regulations.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or marina management software.
- Valid driver’s license; forklift or travel lift certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks.

What You’ll Do:
- Oversee daily boatyard operations including hauling, launching, bottom work, blocking, and storage for vessels up to [insert tonnage or length].
- Manage a team of experienced technicians and subcontractors, ensuring top-tier workmanship and safety.
- Coordinate with service departments and marina staff for seamless customer experiences.
- Inspect and manage complex refits and repairs with an eye for detail and efficiency.
- Provide accurate estimates, timelines, and client communication for all boatyard projects.
- Enforce and maintain safety, environmental, and compliance standards (EPA, OSHA, etc.).
- Ensure proper care of high-value yachts, fishing vessels, and performance sailboats — from hull to mast.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has 5 years of boatyard or marine service experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Understands the intricacies of fiberglass, gelcoat, running gear, rigging, and marine systems.
- Can lead a crew and manage multiple moving parts without sacrificing quality or safety.
- Has strong interpersonal skills and can communicate professionally with discerning clients.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on marine environment.
- Is forklift/travel lift certified (or willing to become certified) and familiar with boatyard equipment.
