Job Overview: SeaWorld is seeking energetic performers with strong movement abilities to bring our Costumed Characters to life for our guests! Characters consist of original SeaWorld characters as well as well-known characters such as Sesame Street and Rudolph. Performers bring our characters to life wearing fully covered, head-to-toe costumes. Costume performers will also have out-of-costume responsibilities, such as escorting the characters during scheduled character sets and Meet & Greets, maintain cleanliness in all backstage areas, etc. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Perform in park opening Welcome show each day. Perform in character costumes for meet & greets and special events. Escort costume characters during sets and performances. Create a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse range of guests. Develop skills/knowledge to maintain excellent quality show/appearance. Accept and adapt to performance feedback and critiques. Assist those in character costumes with dressing and undressing. Communicate professionally and effectively with Ambassadors, Vendors, and our Guests. Maintain cleanliness of all backstage areas. Qualifications: At least 18 years of age. Previous experience in Theme Park Entertainment, Dance, Theatre, or related field is preferrable. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Competencies: Previous experience in Theme Park Entertainment, Dance, Theatre, or related field is preferrable. Strong verbal communication skills. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs. Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed. Stand for prolonged periods of time. Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing) Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes Perform cleaning duties; including use of cleaning chemicals Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities Looking for performers in the following height ranges: 4’11” - 5’2” 5’0” - 5’4” 5’5” - 5’9” 5’8” – 5’11” 5’10” – 6’2” Availability: Available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours, i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts, nights, weekends, and Holidays. Must have three (3) open days of availability, one of which must be a weekend day. (Saturday and Sunday) Training: Park wide trainings including Implicit Bias and as needed. Character Training will be conducted during your first few weeks of working. Work Conditions: Work indoors and in outside weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, wet and/or humid) Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels. Must be able to manage time wisely and set priorities effectively. Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.
