RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to weld using GMAW (mig), SMAW (stick).
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine welding specifications.
- Ability to inspect parts and weld components per blueprint specifications.
- Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
- Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.
- Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
- Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
- Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
- Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
- Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Tacks assemblies together.
- Ability to operate cutting torch and carbon arc.
- Change welding wire and/or welding gases as required.
- Perform general maintenance on welding units.
- Operates electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Performs all work in a safety conscious manner. Be aware of dangers and take all appropriate counter measures to protect yourself and others around you.
- Responsible to maintain a clean and safe work area consistent with the Company’s housekeeping policies

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED with 1 to 3 years of welding experience. Prior experience in manufacturing environment preferred. Welding certification from AWS & ASME is required or the ability to pass AWS & ASME certification test.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols, correspondence and memos in English. Ability to write English correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to management and company associates.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic skills required as needed to utilize tape measures.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to react and respond positively to change.
