What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist position at Seabee, Ligon Hydraulics Company?
Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all production equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic repair work on plant equipment and CNC’s.
- Repairs equipment by removing defective parts, replacing them with new or usable, test to see if repair was adequate.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Inspects parts before and after machining to insure manufacturing to specification.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications and provides documentation thereof.
- Stamps parts produced and maintains documented trace ability to material heat and serial numbers.
- Operates electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Operates a forklift to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Operates manual lathe as assigned.
- Performs all work in a safety conscious manner. Be aware of dangers and take all appropriate counter measures to protect yourself and others around you.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Helps in other areas of machine maintenance when needed.
- Responsible for maintaining and managing tooling, inserts, oils, coolants within assigned work area.
- Responsible for labeling secondary containers of cutting fluids, solvents, etc. used in the work area.
- Responsible to maintain a clean and safe work area consistent with the Company’s housekeeping policies.
- Responsible for cleaning equipment including disposal of chips and shavings produced during machining process.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or GED with 1 to 3 years of machining related experience. Prior experience in manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematics.
Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, blueprints, correspondence and memos in English. Ability to write English correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to management and company associates.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic skills required as needed to utilize tape measures, micrometers and calipers.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to react and respond positively to change.
