What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Supervisor position at Seaboard Energy?
SUMMARY: The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger accounting, tax compliance, and environmental attribute tracking and transaction processing for Seaboard Energy. This position will work directly in coordination with the Controller to plan and develop the accounting team, including the management of accounting staff responsible for fixed asset accounting, financial reporting and fuel tax reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
- Daily supervision, including training and developing of two accounting professionals
- Prepare and assist in various GL accounting duties, including research, analysis, reconciliation, journal entry, transaction entry, and financial statement preparation
- Assist in preparation and review of multi-state fuel tax compliance and file state fuel tax reports
- Assist in management of fixed assets and lease accounting and maintain records related to those
- Manage environmental attribute inventory and act as primary liaison between the Sales team and Accounting to process transactions for environmental attributes; ensuring that transacting and reporting is completed in accordance with laws and regulations
- Provide review and assist in the improvement of the account reconciliations and investigate any variances as needed
- Act as primary liaison for Right Angle, including assisting with system processes and troubleshooting
- Manage in coordination with the Controller the establishment and maintenance of internal controls documentation and guidelines for accounting transactions
- Assist Controller with identifying areas of improvement and manage the implementation of improvements through leading accounting staff during the project
- Other special projects as assigned by management
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- MBA strongly preferred
- 5 years accounting experience required
- Experience with reporting financials in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
- High attention to detail, organized, and deadline-oriented
- Ability to effectively review staff work in a timely manner
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
