Responsibilities
- Monitoring feed quality and water supply
- Monitoring barn environment and ventilation systems
- Breeding sows (if placed on sow farm)
- Processing piglets (if placed on sow farm)
- Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled
- Maintaining farm cleanliness
- Enforce strict safety guidelines and company animal welfare standards
- Keep accurate inventory records of livestock
- Ability to identify visual symptoms of common swine diseases, treat and vaccinate sick animals as necessary.
- Sort off and segregate hogs with disqualifying physical defects
- Achieve PQA certification with the National Pork Board
Required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic math skills
- Flexible and able to work on assigned weekends (Saturday/Sunday)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful, but not required
- Must be able to work in farm environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility.
- The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is dependent on which environment you are in
- The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
