Senior Fitness Program Coordinator-Full Time

I. BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To implement, develop, coordinate, and participate in the Fitness and Aquatics Program that encourages and promotes fitness and wellness Life Enrichment for our residents. Manage day to day operations and activities of the aquatics and fitness center and programs. Supervision, enforcement of fitness policies, associate and volunteer training and assessment of our residents on basic fitness skills is required. Educates our elderly population and associate on the benefits of exercise and maintaining a physically and socially active, healthy lifestyle to preserve quality and enjoyment of life. Engages residents and associates in Fitness and Wellness programs to promote and receive these benefits. Manage and direct associate, IDC’s, and volunteers of fitness programs in the fitness center; GRC, AL, Katzin and GHC.

 

II. CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS SERVED BY POSITION:

Residents and associates of GRC, Independent Living and Leichtag Family Assisted Living Residences and occasional GHC and Katzin resident if considered safe and if space allows.

 

III. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Degree or background in recreation, recreation therapy, physiology or exercise science or geriatric related field. A bachelor's or associate's degree in fitness management, athletic training, exercise, sports or health education with classes in anatomy, nutrition, biochemistry, kinesiology and business management preferred. Will accept a nationally recognized certification such as the American Council on Exercise or American Fitness Professionals and Associates or similar organizations in geriatric fitness training in-lieu of degree. Arthritis Foundation Aquatics certification preferred and required within six (6) months of hire.

 

VI. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Two (2) years recent, proven experience as fitness instructor in public or private employment. Experience in developing exercise programs for older adults. Certification in group fitness and or personal training certification required.

 

V. SKILLS, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Current fitness instructor, personal trainer, and/or specialization certification. Ability to work with geriatric population, medical professionals, families, associates. Computer skills with multiple software programs; Familiar with Pool safety and water rescue protocol/attend water rescue training. Obtain and maintain Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Instructor certificate. Ability to work with geriatric population, medical professionals, families, and associates English language necessary. Able to pass annual physical and TB questionnaire/exam. Must have a current fingerprint clearance as required by our license. Positive mental and physical maturity. Ability to work with diverse population of people and effectively communicate instructions. Pleasant yet strong character that exhibits an empathetic approach to our residents and their families.

 

 VI. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES THAT MUST BE SAFELY PERFORMED WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION WIHTOUT POSING A DIRECT THREAT TO OTHER ASSOCIATES, RESIDENTS AND ASSOCIATE:

        WORK PERFORMANCE – job knowledge, quality, productivity, planning, creativity, initiative

  1. Plans, directs, develops, implements, and participates in all aspects of the fitness program calendar, classes, and schedule for meeting individual and group fitness needs, focusing on all components of fitness and health.
  2. Ensures the safety of the fitness center and pool, all related outings and fitness activities and all individuals’ participation in the fitness program offerings.
  3. Partners in conjunction with the Director of GRC and Director of Assisted Living and LE associate in Katzin and GHC to meet resident fitness needs.
  4. Consults with Rehabilitation Department personnel, outside PT’s, and physicians for individual exercise precautions for residents with known health risk factors or disease, who may or may not have have completed physical rehabilitation prior to participation in the fitness program, to ensure residents receive fitness programming appropriate to their needs.
  5. Schedules IDC and Volunteer instructors to provide fitness classes that would benefit our residents, ie., Yoga, Tai Chi, etc. Evaluates IDC and volunteer led fitness programs to ensure residents are receiving the best program and that SV contracts with IDC and/or volunteers continue or are terminated.
  6. Ensures IDC’s and volunteers maintain current professional liability insurance in collaboration with HR.
  7. Conducts individual and group fitness/wellness programs geared to maintain and /or improve all components of fitness (cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, balance, and mobility.) Conducts in person orientations with new residents to complete HHQ, medical clearance and initial exercise program.
  8. Educates residents on the importance of healthier lifestyles through leading monthly health and fitness lectures and discussions. Lead at least one (1) monthly program for wellness watcher participants.
  9. Instructs residents individually and in groups on the proper use and benefits of fitness equipment.
  10. Able to be a collaborator and demonstrates positive attitude and ability to collaborate well with people and associates.
  11. Coordinate and assist in coordination of fitness-oriented building wide events such SV Olympics, triathlon, health fairs and the longest day event, etc.
  12. Maintains respect for residents' confidentiality and privacy. Uphold HIPPAA policies.
  13. Ensures accurate records are kept on all residents and associates participating in the program.
  14. Follows up with any noted equipment repairs and provides communication and payment for the maintenance of the equipment vendor.
  15. Evaluates, when appropriate, the progress of each resident so maximum benefit is received from their individualized fitness program. Adapts and proposes exercise programs as needed.
  16. Documents all incidents and concerns and shares with appropriately involved associates.
  17. Train, supervise, mentor and schedule Fitness Assistants and volunteers working within the fitness center and elsewhere on campus to provide safety monitoring, emergency protocol, exercise instruction, opening and closing procedures, problem solving and general assistance to maximize quality of the fitness and aquatics program.
  18. Understands safety signal signals (i.e, emergency fire alarms) and can communicate safety procedures to residents.
  19. Provide minor first aid when needed.
  20. Provide monthly utilization reports.
  21. Obtains physician’s release to exercise forms for residents with known risk factors or disease prior to resident participation in program.
  22. Creates, writes, and maintains safety policies and emergency protocols in Fitness Center & on resident fitness outings.
  23. Assists in writing legal documents such as resident and associate liability release waivers.
  24. Writes, edits, and contributes to “The Wave” fitness newsletter and authors articles for “Happenings” and other local publications.
  25. Order supplies for fitness center
  26. Maintains Vitality Center bulletin board. Utilize computer programming for signs, letters, memos, daily activity calendar, etc.
  27. Works with the Volunteer coordinator to enhance the volunteer program, including the training of new volunteers and the scheduling of volunteers.  Encourage and support volunteers and associate participation in the Fitness Program.
  28. Builds Community: Understands and embraces the role of volunteers to enhance the fitness program; helps volunteers and residents make connections to others and to SV; practices effective relationship-building techniques.
  29. Assists with the annual recognition event for volunteers.
  30. Assesses and communicates with management needed adjustments/improvements to Fitness Center /Pool programming, associate hours, and time management, to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of staffing and budget.
  31. Understands and communicates building system conditions in Fitness Center and Pool area to maintain proper balance or heating, A/C, and air flow.
  32. Monitors and records daily chlorine and PH levels of both pools.
  33. Communicates building issues, system malfunctions, needs for repair (i.e; plumbing, pool mechanics, lighting, housekeeping needs) to maintenance or housekeeping.
  34. Evaluates efficiency of software used to track participants records and utilization of Fitness Center and pool and all related outings and Life Enrichment.

 

SUPERVISORY PERFORMANCE – personnel selection, training, follow-up, financial/economy, safety, leadership

  1. Hiring & Disciplinary process – Collaborating with the Director of GRC recruit, supervise, and trains associates, as appropriate, specific to the department and according to Seacrest Village’s policies and procedures.
  2. Staff Development, Training and Education - Schedule and ensure adequate staffing and equitable workloads meet the needs of the facility. Ensures associate receive job/department orientation and on-going in-service training that meets the objectives of the department according to the department and SV policies.
  3. Fire/Disaster, Safety and Workers Compensation - know facility’s Fire Evacuation and Disaster Plan. Promote a safe environment within the facility which includes fire and accident prevention, maintenance of sanitary conditions and assurance that all assigned associate understand their role in the event of a disaster or other disruption of services. Observes safety regs; ensures associate wear and use appropriate equipment, first aid kits are supplied and replenished, reports associate incidents immediately to HR and completes paperwork; investigates and provides work injury prevention solutions for future training.  Attend/ assign someone for participation at safety committee meetings. Conduct safety training as required.

  5. Represent Seacrest Village and department in a professional and positive manner within and outside the community; appearance and attitude.
  6. Mission - Familiarize self and associates with Seacrest Village policies and procedures and same with the Jewish tradition as observed by our residents, family, and guests.
  7. Interpersonal - Create and maintain a positive work environment based on individual respect, responsibility, personal and professional growth.
  8. As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policy, applies “minimum necessary”, “needs to know” guidelines on all PHI information and reports non-compliance violation to Private Officer.
  9. All other tasks and special projects as delegated by the Director of GRC.
  10. Inform senior administrative staff of significant resident changes and needs.
  11. Participate in management, associates, and other meetings to support facility operations.
  12. Represent Seacrest Village and department in a professional and positive manner within and outside the community, appearance, and attitude.
  13. Mission - Familiarize self and associates with Seacrest Village policies and procedures and same with the Jewish tradition as observed by our residents, family, and guests.
  14. Interpersonal - Create and maintain a positive work environment based on individual respect, responsibility, personal and professional growth.
  15. As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policy, applies “minimum necessary,” “needs to know” guidelines on all PHI information and reports non-compliance violations to Privacy Officer.
  16. As a mandated reporter per DOJ requirements, attends Mandated Reporter Abuse training meetings, will report all abuse incidents; physical, emotional, financial, sexual, verbal, completing the 1) SOC 341 form, mailing or faxing, 2) calling the ombudsmen and/or department of health services; for Assisted Living and Independent Living, call ombudsmen, and APS (adult protective services)
  17. Follow the corporate compliance standard and associate code of conduct, of performing work with an ethical behavior and utilizing proper business conduct and professional practice, which complies with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; as serving the residents, preserving the organizational reputation, maintaining resident/associate trust, and reporting noncompliance to the corporate compliance officer.

 

MISSION, VISION, POLICY, AND REGULATIONS - SV Philosophy, judgment, adherence to policy, and regulatory requirements.

  1. Familiarize self with Seacrest Village mission/vision, rules, policies, and procedures and same with the Jewish Tradition as observed by our residents, family, and guests.
  2. Observes safety regulations; to include but not limited to wearing appropriate safety equipment, reporting work related injuries timely, using proper body mechanics, responding to fire/disaster alarms & wearing security badge.
  3. Follow timekeeping policy utilizing timeclock to record all hours worked to include mandatory meal period of thirty minutes by the fifth hour of work and OT is authorized by supervisor.
  4. Wear appropriate clothing per facility and uniform policy to always include name badge.
  5. As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality and privacy policy, applies “minimum necessary,” “needs to know” guidelines on all PHI information and reports non-compliance violations to Privacy Officer.
  6. As a mandated reporter per DOJ requirements, attends Mandated Reporter Abuse training meetings, will report all abuse incidents; physical, emotional, financial, sexual, verbal, completing the 1) SOC 341 form, mailing or Faxing, 2) calling the ombudsmen and/or department of health services; for Assisted Living and Independent Living, call ombudsmen, and APS (adult protective services), and 3) informing supervisor so resident can be protected.

  1. Contributes and attends the resident assessment meetings.
  2. Assists the Life Enrichment associates with Life Enrichment pertaining to Fitness.

 

X. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is regularly required to stand and walk on their feet for several hours at a time. Hands, fingers, arms are frequently used for holding, stretching, and reaching. The associate will be expected to be able to climb or balance, kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The associate must be able to lift or move, unassisted, up to 50 lbs. Vision and hearing are required due to the safety of our residents.
