Position Summary:
The Golf Course Superintendent oversees all aspects of golf course operations, focusing on the maintenance and upkeep of golf course turf, greens, and surrounding grounds. This role requires expert knowledge in golf course construction, maintenance practices, and equipment management to ensure superior playing conditions for club members and guests.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of all equipment used on the golf course.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, including updating permits and personal certifications as required.
- Foster open communication among all departments within the Club to facilitate seamless operations.
- Uphold maintenance standards that directly impact member and guest satisfaction.
- Handle multiple requests with composure, accuracy, and timely resolution.
- Respond promptly and professionally to questions, problems, and requests, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions.
- Plan, layout, and supervise the construction and maintenance of roads, greens, tees, fairways, and other course features.
- Seed and cultivate various types of turf; oversee planting, pruning, fertilizing, and pest control activities.
- Supervise the repair and maintenance of mechanical and motorized equipment, irrigation systems, and drainage systems.
- Direct construction projects, ensuring efficient use of manpower and equipment.
- Prepare detailed reports including scheduling and payroll information.
- Manage employee relations and ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Identify and promptly address safety hazards; propose improvements to enhance safety and prevent accidents.
- Open and close the golf course daily and seasonally according to established procedures.
- Establish and enforce standards for grounds maintenance and equipment care based on local climate conditions.
- Hire and discharge grounds maintenance staff as needed within budgetary constraints.
- Purchase necessary supplies such as grasses, chemicals, fertilizers, and cleaning materials.
- Supervise irrigation schedules, mowing practices, and fertilization programs to maximize golf course usage.
- Maintain knowledge of golf rules and tournament playing conditions.
- Maintain accurate records
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
- State certification for purchasing and using restricted pesticides and turf chemicals.
- Ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed, maintaining a flexible schedule.
- Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor with members, guests, staff, and colleagues.
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, and balance as required.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 50 lbs., and pushing carts weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Comfortable working in wet, hot, cold, or humid weather conditions with moderate noise levels.
Physical Requirements/Other:
- Must have the ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb or balance.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended hours, as well as lift, carry and push up to 50 lbs. and push carts weighing up to 250 lbs.
