Job Overview:
The Assistant Teacher will support the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. This role is responsible for assisting in planning, preparing, and delivering age-appropriate activities, maintaining classroom order, and ensuring the emotional and developmental needs of the children are met. The assistant teacher will work closely with the lead teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain NAEYC Accreditation Standards and practices.
- Comply with DHS Child Care Licensing Hawaii Administrative Rules.
- Work with individuals or small groups of children as directed by the lead teacher.
- Assist the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities, lessons, and materials.
- Assist in assessing and documenting student progress and behavior.
- Assist with mealtime preparations and nap-time support.
- Monitor student behavior and enforce school policies to promote a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to support learning objectives.
- Help maintain classroom organization and cleanliness such as cleaning, sanitizing, toileting, and diapering, plus managing supplies and resources.
- Conduct yourself in an appropriate manner when dealing with children, other staff or parents, or during school activities on or off campus.
- Be sensitive and responsive to children's needs.
- Use positive modeling and behavior management.
- Follow school policies and procedures (maintain confidentiality).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Meet day care licensing requirements for an assistant teacher.
- Assistant teacher in early childhood education or CDA or 2 years college and six months experience with preschool ages and 9 units Early Childhood Education.
- Must meet state licensing requirements (Medical, TB, and criminal history clearance).
- Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
