Job Title: Fisheries Program & Outreach Intern   Location: Sitka, AK preferred, with remote option   Job Summary: Are you passionate about climate change science and fisheries? Join Alaska Longline Fishermen's Association (ALFA) as the Fisheries Program & Outreach Intern this summer! This internship will provide exposure to new experiences and ideas, an opportunity to build skills while substantially contributing to ALFA programs, and an enhanced appreciation for Alaska's fisheries and the marine environment.   You will assist with research projects, including outreach to fishermen to support participation in ALFA's bathymetric mapping program. You will also support summer program activities, such as the Crew Apprentice Program/Young Fishermen initiative by helping place apprentices, plan trainings, expand into other rural communities. Apply your interest in science by supporting ALFA’s climate resilience research and fishery access barriers in surrounding rural communities. You will support all aspects of operating our Community Supported Fishery (CSF) program Alaskans Own and seafood donation program.   You will also gain experience in writing/designing outreach materials for events, CSF newsletters, and ALFA website updates as well as help create media and promotional materials.   This internship can take place remotely, but it is preferred that the position take place in person in Sitka, AK.   Duties/Responsibilities: Receive training in fisheries management advocacy. Learn about program coordinator and community outreach for ALFA’s programs. Gain networking possibilities and on-the-job experience in local, state and national fisheries management forums as well as in programmatic outreach. Work on an audio documentary project that records the stories, knowledge, culture and personal experiences of Alaska small boat commercial fishermen, and advocates for marine conservation in support of sustainable small boat fisheries. Work with climate resilience research, researching fisheries access barriers, and helping to run/plan trainings/evaluate our crew apprentice program as well as the expansion of these programs in rural/indigenous communities. Perform other duties as assigned.   Required Skills/Abilities: Team-motivated, self-directed, and respectful Love for the marine environment Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently Ability to meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Must be a Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder Legally authorized to work in the United States Ability to travel as needed   Education and Experience: Must be age 18 at time of hire Must be currently enrolled in post-secondary school/program or a recent graduate (1-2 years) Legally authorized to work in the United States   Preferred: Studying science with an interest in climate change science or fisheries At least a 2.5 GPA Strong critical thinking and research skills Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment   Application Process: Complete online application at Sealaska.com/careers by January 27, 2025.
